Montenegro Music Festivals 2026: The Full Calendar

Montenegro’s festival season does not end when the crowds go home — it gets better. The two best music festivals in the country fall in the first week of September, three days apart, forty minutes down the same coast road. Here is the full 2026 calendar, in order, with what each one actually is.

Lake Fest — 7 to 9 August, Lake Krupac, Nikšić

The one that is not on the coast. Lake Fest is Montenegro’s biggest rock and alternative gathering, held over three days on the shore of Lake Krupac outside Nikšić, an hour inland from Podgorica.

The line-up runs from rock and alternative bands to DJ sets late on, and the crowd is overwhelmingly domestic and young. Camping on site is part of it rather than a fallback.

Tivat Music Festival — 25 June to 16 August, Tivat

Not a weekend but a season. The Tivat Music Festival spreads classical, opera and folk programmes across roughly seven weeks of summer in and around Tivat, much of it in the open air near the waterfront.

This is the one to know about if the idea of a beach rave is your idea of a bad holiday. Individual evenings are self-contained — you can drop in for one concert without committing to anything.

Sea Dance Festival — 28 to 31 August, Bečići Beach, Budva

The largest and loudest. Sea Dance, the coastal sister of Serbia’s EXIT festival, returns to Montenegro in 2026 after a three-year absence, at a new home on Bečići Beach south of Budva. Four nights on the sand, with warm-up events along the beach from 24 August.

Announced headliners include Charlotte de Witte, Peggy Gou, Hugel and Enrico Sangiuliano, with John Newman presenting a new live show.

Southern Soul Festival — 1 to 4 September, Velika Plaža, Ulcinj

The connoisseur’s choice, and the reason to stay into September. Southern Soul takes place at the far south of the country on Velika Plaža — the twelve-kilometre sand beach outside Ulcinj — and it is nothing like Sea Dance.

The programme is soul, jazz, funk, house and disco, played to a small crowd with feet in the sand. Alongside the music there are art installations, yoga sessions and a food programme. It is deliberately boutique: the point is the setting and the selection, not the scale.

Petrovac Jazz Festival — 3 to 6 September, Petrovac

And this is the one nobody outside Montenegro seems to know about. The Petrovac Jazz Festival reaches its 20th edition in 2026, having started in 2007. Four evenings of international jazz and blues on the seafront of a small town between Budva and Bar.

Every concert is free.

The September week worth planning around

Look at the dates again. Southern Soul runs 1–4 September in Ulcinj. Petrovac Jazz runs 3–6 September in Petrovac. They overlap, and the two towns are a little over an hour apart by road.

That means one trip in the first week of September can take in a beach house-and-soul festival and a free seafront jazz festival, with warm sea and none of the August crowds in between. It is the single best week of the Montenegrin year for anyone who came for the music, and it is the one nobody advertises.

Practical

• September is the value month. The sea holds 24–26 °C, accommodation prices drop from their August peak, and the coast road is drivable again.
• Ulcinj is the furthest point from both airports — roughly 1 hour 45 from Podgorica. Factor that in if you are combining festivals.
• Dates and line-ups shift. Confirm with the organiser before booking flights around a single event.
