Local Team for Preventing Extremism Formed in Danilovgrad

Representatives of the National Multi-agency Operational Team (NOT) for preventing and combating violent extremism, terrorism, money laundering, and financing terrorism met with local authorities in Danilovgrad to establish a local operational team, according to a statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).

The meeting was initiated by national coordinator Petar Koprivica as part of activities aimed at strengthening cooperation between national and local levels, and establishing an effective system for early detection and response to security risks, with a special focus on preventive action.

Alexander Grgurović, the mayor of Danilovgrad, attended the meeting along with his colleagues, expressing full openness and readiness of the municipality to actively participate in this process. He emphasized the importance of partnership and continuous cooperation among all relevant actors at both local and national levels.

The regional coordinator for fighting terrorism on the Western Balkans, Eddy Greif, also participated in the meeting after spending the previous week in Montenegro, which further highlights the significance of regional and international cooperation in addressing contemporary security challenges.

It was noted during the meeting that contact points for this area have already been established in five municipalities in Montenegro, with the strategic goal of establishing such a cooperation model in all municipalities over the next two years by forming local teams and improving inter-institutional coordination.

The role of local communities in preventing radicalization and violent extremism was particularly highlighted, as well as the importance of timely legal risk assessment and conducting preventive activities on-site.

It is concluded that this model of cooperation will strengthen institutional capacities and improve a coordinated response to modern security challenges with full commitment to open and continuous cooperation among all involved parties.
